    As we continue to grow at pace, we are expanding our Marketing and Communications function to ensure we maintain clarity, consistency, and strategic alignment across all internal and external communications.

    We are looking for a Communications Manager to join our team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This newly created role offers the opportunity to shape and lead communications across a respected, growing, and high-impact defence manufacturing business.

    You will be responsible for designing and delivering impactful communications strategies that inform, engage, and inspire our employees and external stakeholders. Working closely with teams across the business, you’ll identify and tell the stories that bring Pearson Engineering to life — from innovation and apprenticeships to sustainability and local economic impact.

    This is a strategic and hands-on position that will suit someone who is confident working in a technical, fast-paced environment and comfortable managing sensitive or complex topics.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and deliver integrated communication plans that support business goals and stakeholder engagement.
    • Manage and mentor two direct reports – a Graphic Designer and an Internal Communications Specialist.
    • Lead on external communications, including media relations, press releases, and crisis communications.
    • Develop and commission thought leadership content and case studies aligned with marketing and business development objectives.
    • Collaborate with colleagues across Business Development, HR, R&D, and Sales to ensure consistent messaging.
    • Act as brand guardian, ensuring visual identity, tone, and messaging are applied consistently across all materials.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities, using insights to improve performance.
    • Represent Pearson Engineering externally, including occasional UK and international travel to events such as Eurosatory in Paris.

    About You

    You’re a skilled communicator who can think strategically while remaining hands-on in delivery. You thrive in complex, technical environments and can translate intricate topics into compelling stories that engage diverse audiences.

    Essential Skills and Experience:

    • Proven experience in a communications role, ideally within engineering, manufacturing, or heavy industry.
    • Strong writing and editorial skills, able to craft high-quality content for technical and corporate audiences.
    • Demonstrated experience in media relations and press engagement.
    • Skilled in using digital content platforms, media monitoring tools, and analytics.
    • Experience managing and developing team members.
    • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels.
    • Comfortable working in a regulated and security-conscious environment.
    • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven.

    Desirable:

    • Familiarity with Account-Based Marketing (ABM) principles and B2B content strategies.
    • Knowledge of the defence industry and its communication sensitivities.
    • Experience using Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
    • Understanding of internal communications best practice in a manufacturing or engineering setting.
